Charlotte, the founder of Open Justice For All, meets the Ministry of Justice
This week, Charlotte, the founder of Open Justice For All, sat down with the Ministry of Justice to discuss the life-changing impact that having access to her court transcripts would have made for her.
Having secured access to free sentencing remarks for victims of rape and sexual assault last year, Open Justice For All’s tenacious campaigning led to them being available for victims of all crimes, as well as securing a commitment from the Ministry of Justice that Magistrates Courts – where Charlotte’s case was heard – would be recorded for the first time.
But the work isn’t done yet and working alongside the Victim’s Commissioner, Claire Waxman, Open Justice For All is continuing to lobby parliamentarians and officials within the department to make the case for greater accountability, fairness, and transparency in the criminal justice system.
Giving other victim-survivors the courage to come forward, tell their stories, and talk about the difference that court transcripts would have made to them is an integral part of that work.
Throughout their time on our Accelerator programme, Breakthrough supported Open Justice For All to engage thousands of victim-survivors to lend their support to their movement for change.
