3 years of direct experience change
In our democracy, too often it is communities with the most at stake who are excluded from the decisions that affect their lives. Breakthrough was built to change that. We built our model by asking direct-experience campaigners what they needed and listening to them.
Three years into our work the results speak for themselves:
All of this delivered by a staff team of three, on bootstrap resources, in one of the most challenging political moments in a generation.
Breakthrough-back campaigns have achieved policy change that will be felt by millions of people.
Charlotte Schreurs has changed the law for tens of thousands of sexual assault and rape survivors who now have new rights and protections throughout the trial process.
Zelda Perkins and other victims silenced by NDAs have ensured millions of workers will no longer be forced into silence if they experience discrimination, abuse or harassment in the workplace.
Esther Ghey, alongside other parent campaigners, has ensured every child in every school, state or private, will be protected from the distraction of mobile phones in classrooms.
This is what can happen when courage is matched with the right infrastructure, expertise and care.
— Zelda Perkins
