Furnishing Futures

Campaigning for domestic abuse survivors to have safe, furnished Homes

Every year thousands of survivors who have escaped domestic abuse arrive at their new home to find it has nothing - no beds, no white goods, not even flooring. Instead of a fresh start it can mean survivors get stuck into a cycle of debt, ill health and even return to an abuser.

Furnishing Futures is setting out to change this, they’ve already furnished properties for hundreds of survivors. But the problem is bigger than any one organisation can tackle. 97% of social housing tenancies are unfurnished.

They are calling for the Government to make it mandatory for every survivor of domestic abuse to have access to a furnished tenancy - giving survivors the safe home they need to rebuild their lives.

If you agree survivors of domestic abuse deserve more than cold, empty rooms - add your name to the Furnishing Futures campaign. (opens in a new tab)

Survivors deserve more than cold, empty rooms. They deserve safety, dignity and the chance to start again. Furnished homes save lives.

Breakthrough has been backing Furnishing Futures since 2025 through our Housing Lab - supporting them to launch their first ever policy campaign. They’ve now been invited to join an advisory group for a Government pilot into furnished tenancies.
