Three Years of Direct-Experience Campaigning in Action

Breakthrough launches it's Impact Report 2026

In our democracy, too often it is communities with the most at stake who are excluded from the decisions that affect their lives. Breakthrough was built to change that. We built our model by asking direct-experience campaigners what they needed and listening to them.

Three years into our work we’ve backed 16 campaigns, moved 16,000 to action, changed 14 national laws and policies and won change that will affect 13.8 million people. All of this delivered by a staff team of three, on bootstrap resources, in one of the most challenging political moments in a generation.

Today Breakthrough launches its first impact report - Behind the Breakthroughs (opens in a new tab) - what we have learnt about what it takes for direct experience campaigners to sustain and to win.

The people in this report are proof of what can happen when courage is matched with the right infrastructure, expertise and care.
